ASH TREE GROVE
ASH TREE GROVE
Ash Tree Grove. During excursion over the Ash Grove you can learn that ash is a relic tree, as per paleontological findings it was growing back in Paleogene Period. Ash tree survived the glacial period. Millions of years had passed: climate and mountains had been changed, image of the Earth transformed, different species of animals and plants appeared, and the ash-trees remained the same. “Soldier’s ass trees” grow in the grove area. Botanists call it river-loving as it grows only near rivers. This spec of ash survived only here, in the lower course of Charyn river and in the canyon of its affluent Temirlik. Since 1964 the Ash tree grove was declared a natural monument, cutting of thу trees is forbidden. Several forest ranger posts protect the grove. The ash grove area is 4855 ha, but the ash trees themselves occupy only 800 ha.
